good day in the studio. just waiting now for mr Hansard to deliver his guitar part and then we are done. bar a bit of mixing. all in all it was a pretty easy and enjoyable record to make. I’m most proud of it. it’s busting with good feelings and dark landscapes.
last little bit of recording today. two little acoustic numbers. please god they will go down sweet and easy
imagine drinking coffee here every morning. I think I would rushing to get out of my bed because of it. 8’)
I wanna live here
now you know I have a helium heart
and it’s tethered to your tinfoil anchor
the city blinks
the sky’s lid closing
the wind tickles me like lashes
and the moon brushes my cheek
the night takes me in
holds me tightly, safely.
my steps so light as I move down the hill toward the sleeping cities heart,
by two young lovers embraced like an old wartime photograph,
his leg thrown out to support her weight
and every step a step closer,
closer to where your eyelids twitch
as your dreams excite you,
to where your breath comes steady and slow and deep,
to where your lips, open so slightly brush the cotton,
your body makes the shape of a runner but lies still and heavy on the bed.
I know what your breath will taste like and how your skin will feel against mine.
I know for I feel and taste you over and over in my mind
as I move like a bird through the city and to you
my love.

it’s a pity as I am only getting in the swing of things now. well all going well we will do it again when my album is out next year.

in Siena now for the night. it’s magnificent. this is the town square it is huge. they have a big horse race around the square every year and thousands of people come to watch. it’s so fast and so dangerous because of the cobblestoned streets. there are loads of crazy big ornate churches everywhere in this little city,
I’m gonna go for a wander now. I just woke up after having the most wonderful daytime sleep, crazy dreams. tomorrow Claire joins us in Rome and it will be so good to see her smile again. tonight we feast well and rest in Siena and tomorrow we take Rome.

so we left basel. what a wonderful couple of gigs. everyone at the venue looked after us so well. tonights gig was special. finished it up the gig with glen fiachra and myself busting Dylan gospel style. I will definitely be making my way back there someday. I really have spent too long in Dublin over the last few years. I forgot the world was there. I have reignited my love of adventure.
driving now all trough the night to Siena. I have heard it’s very pretty. I should be asleep, I’m so tired. I never was any good at sleeping in cars. When I was a child I used to work delivering the times newspaper, fresh off the printers to the shops of Ireland. I guess that got me used to driving at night. sucking up White lines.
it’s a long drive this one. 10 hours. : ( biut it’s nice right now. quiet on the roads and I’m listening to Leonard Cohen sing his poetry
I will be sad to leave the tour in Rome. we have really hit dirt now and the gigs are getting better and better. I really have so much love for glen and fiachra and Heidi. this has been a most pleasant tour ever.
this is from an amazing girl we met
on this trip.
